What is Mariner Munchiez?
This year at Pacifica, we had our Mariner Munchiez fundraiser! In this event, clubs sold food at the quad during lunch on December 6th. Similar to the club-rush experience, the energy was high! From the lively atmosphere to the decorated posters and the smell of food alone, students could even be seen crowding around the booths in every place. It should be acknowledged that this event would not be possible if it weren’t for the diverse clubs we have at our school, which worked to organize this event from academic to sports clubs alike.
Through the Eyes of a Club Member
As mentioned earlier, the clubs at Pacifica were the key players in organizing this event. And what better way to show that than by hearing what a club member has to say herself?! The club that’ll be focused on is Mock Trial, represented by its sophomore publisher Miah Soto. When asked about her experience with Mariner Munchiez, Miah explained, “We sold chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin bread, chocolate peppermint cookies, and hot cocoa. I think it’s a great way for a lot of clubs to fundraise since a lot of fundraisers have to be done after school, and not many people may be able to come. But Mariner Munchiez allows for all students to be able to support different clubs! For our club, we planned beforehand to bring hot water and baked goods. We also prepared with tablecloth and napkins, so it wasn’t too hard if you plan before the event! We’re only given around 20 minutes to set up before lunch starts so it’s important to assign tasks to everybody in order for it to run smoothly and efficiently, or else your fundraiser might not be as successful.” When asked about her final thoughts, she said, “I had lots of fun throughout Mariner Munchiez, and I felt happy that people were enjoying my baked goods and that we were helping our club to raise funds! It’s a really great experience for all who participate!” In saying this, she highlights the consideration that club members needed to have when organizing this event to be a success.
The Student Experience
Similar to what this club member had to say, many students across campus shared the same excitement over the occurrence of this event. When asked about her thoughts, sophomore Maryann Tran explained how Mariner Munchiez brought a refreshing change to Pacifica’s usual school schedule. She goes on to say, “I thought it was really cool since it gave me something to look forward to at lunch and gave me a second option to regular school lunch. I bought the pazookie from Bake It Forward, and the lumpia and chicken skewers from the Bayanihan club. I think Mariner Munchies was really similar to International Days last year, with all the clubs selling their food for other students.” By saying this, Maryann goes on to show how she didn’t only enjoy the food, but rather appreciated the meaning of what this fundraiser symbolized in Pacifica’s community. “I really hope we have another day like this sometime in the future. Seeing all the clubs make and sell food is a really good insight into the culture of each club,” she added. After all, there’s no denying that Mariner Munchiez helps raise funds for clubs and encourages school spirit. However, the core meaning lies in how it displays the diversity of our school community and the unity we have as mariners.
