In just a few weeks, seniors will be walking across the stage to receive their diplomas. But on Friday, March 27th, Pacifica seniors were content with walking through the gym in their favorite pajamas. There is something bittersweet about Senior Lock-in: it’s designed to celebrate the end of high school, yet the “PJ Party” theme made it seem more like a return to the beginning. As the doors clicked shut, the real world of college admissions and preparing for the future was put on hold. Surrounded by childhood friends and classmates, the Class of 2026 took over Pacifica’s gym for three hours of games, laughter, and memories. Organized by ASB to provide one final senior-only event before graduation, this proved that no matter how ready they are to grow up, there’s never an age limit to a pajama party.
So, what did the Class of 2026 do for those three hours of being in the gym? Abigail Favro, who was at this event, remembers, “There was karaoke,
a large Connect 4, and three inflatables: a skee ball one, a football one, and an obstacle course one. There were about 100 people there, and everyone was in pajamas, including me.” Another senior in attendance was Alyson Acosta, who shared that she spent most of her time “playing with the football inflatable and going on the inflatable obstacle course.” Such activities made the night unforgettable for Pacifica seniors and let them relive some childhood memories.
Furthermore, such a lively and entertaining night was a perfect way to combat “senioritis,” which by mid-second semester is in full effect. When asked about this, Abigail notes, “It helped motivate me for the final stretch and made me realize that the end is near!” That sentiment was shared by Alyson as well, who explains the feeling as “bittersweet.” She says, “You’re trying to enjoy every last moment with your friends, but we graduate next month, and everybody is going to different places”. The hard work all of Pacifica’s seniors have put in these last four years makes them worthy of all the celebrations to come, senior lock-in being the first of many. It served both as a lasting memory and a reminder of how close graduation is.
The gym may be put back together, and the inflatables put away, but the energy from Senior Lock-In remains. As seniors now lock in for the last few months of school, they do so with a little less stress and new, exciting memories to take with them, as a result of this night. The Class of 2026 proved that while they’re ready to step into the real world, they’ll make the most of every second before they walk on stage.
