As the weather gets colder and the days shorter, there’s no better time to curl up with a good book than winter. This year, Pacifica is turning that cozy feeling into an opportunity to win prizes with Beanstack, an app that tracks reading time. November 17th marks the start of the “Cozy Up with a Good Book” reading challenge, which extends all the way to January 18th. This app lets students log their reading and earn various rewards along the way, and isn’t limited to just books: audiobooks, teacher read-alouds, webtoons, manga, and graphic novels all count, too! So, whether you are a dedicated bookworm or looking for a new reason to pick up a novel, this competition is the perfect way to stay motivated and discover new stories, all while staying warm and comfortable!

Reading with Beanstack can give students that extra push they need to keep reading during the busy school year. With this challenge running through the holidays, the app has become a major motivator. Filip Sobanski, a sophomore with over a thousand minutes logged on Beanstack, explains that this app has helped him keep the motivation for reading. He shares, “Beanstack is great if you don’t have the motivation to read, and it can get you started on finding newer books or reading more in general. You have the chance to gain some prizes as well.” By simply logging minutes, students can make reading an exciting opportunity to gain prizes, such as Anchor Points.
Beyond the prizes, reading also has real academic benefits that go beyond the

app itself. By encouraging students to read, Beanstack fosters the important skills that come from reading. Ninth grader Holli Federwitz has logged over 2000 minutes through this app, and describes the benefits of reading in general: “You learn a lot more vocabulary and interesting information while reading. I enjoy reading a lot, especially action, so I like how Beanstack motivates you to do it more.” Whether students choose fantasy, nonfiction, or graphic novels, every minute logged on Beanstack helps build strong reading habits.
This challenge isn’t just about earning prizes; it creates long-lasting reading habits and inspires students to read for the love of reading. As students settle in this holiday season, Beanstack offers the perfect mix of motivation, fun, and learning. Happy reading, Mariners!
