This past week was Counselor Appreciation Week from February 3rd to the 7th, and it’s a time to appreciate the incredible work each counselor does here at Pacifica. To celebrate some of this epic team, Ms. Roman and Mrs. Williams shared why helping students means so much to them:
Ms. Roman, one of our new counselors this year, shared, “There’s so many reasons I became a counselor, but basically to support and guide, especially for those who don’t have someone.” She wants to ensure that students have the guidance they need to thrive at Pacifica. She also wants to make sure students have the responsibility, goals, and the capability necessary to succeed in certain classes, meaning creating the perfect classes for each Mariner. Ms. Roman’s high school experience and dedication to her academics and extracurriculars really allowed her to be successful in college and outside of college, in order for her to provide for others.
Furthermore, Mrs. Williams shared, “It was a long journey to get to where I am today, but I knew for sure I wanted to work with students.” She worked in social services for about seven or eight years then worked with in-home support kids. She then decided she wanted to work in schools, which was definitely a surprise, considering she hadn’t really loved high school. However, she was able to find the perfect job for her and she doesn’t regret it! In her email correspondence, she shared, “You never know where life is going to take you, and you can never change where you’ve been, but today, I have the opportunity to choose”. Advice like this is what makes our counselors so valuable to our students at Pacifica.
Overall, the counselors work very hard for the students at Pacifica and should be recognized this week for what they do. These counselors work diligently to create schedules that work for each Mariner and to support our education so Mariner students can go into college and/or the path of our future. Counselors also help with emotional support during challenging times, offering to discuss and guide students to overcome any obstacle. So even though the week has passed, send your counselor a nice email to appreciate them for guidance.
